Weekend in Ohio

Yesterday, Rene and I headed off to Ohio to do some camping and see a Red's game (MLB baseball). A guy Rene works with gave us some free tickets so we made a weekend out of it. At first we were going to spend Sat-Mon in Ohio, but I got a JOB so our trip was cut short. Anyways, we reached the campsite a little late thanks to our GPS and the state park website. However, we made it there and had our camp set up before the sun set. As we were sitting down to roast our hotdogs, all light was gone. It was interesting to do everything by firelight. By the time we were ready for S'Mores, the fire was just embers (which is great for roasting marshmellows but horrible to see by). We ended up using our tiny flashlight for light and only ate one smore and no extra marshmellows. =) Now, sleeping was a whole other thing. We thought our tent was on a relatively good spot but once we were in the tent and in our sleeping bags, we realized there was a big slope. Neither of us slept well, I was "rolling" down the hill and then it was just hard. But, we had a lot of fun and wished we could have camped longer. We will definetly be doing this again.

Today, we went to the Red's game and found out that Oktoberfest was going on at the same time. It was great, a two for one deal (and no, we did not drink)! The game was pretty good. It was our first MLB game and that was cool to experience together. Although neither of us follow baseball, have a special team, or will ever follow baseball it was still good.

Effects of Hurricane Ike in Indy

Today as Rene and I were leaving for church we had quite the interesting experience. Rene opened the door and suddenly there was a large "Whoosh" and all of this rain blew into our apartment. Everything outside was blowing and just crazy. I thought it was the greatest thing and so happy that I had decided to put my hair up (the important stuff, right?). Anyways, I wish I could have taken a video of Rene opening the door.

Here are some pics from a week ago or so. We were having another small storm and it began to hail. Rene and I opened our front door to watch. I got amazed at the size of the hail, it was huge!! I had never seen hail like this so I ran to get my camera. Hopefully, you can make out the hail and rain. Now, living in such nice apartments, our gutter system doesn't work and whenever we have lots of rain there is a waterfall right by our front door. It's great!

A Good Day

Today, Rene and I attended a BBQ thrown by one of Rene's trainers. It was a lot of fun. First of all, the weather was fabulous!!!! It was about 75 degrees plus a breeze. A day reminding us of Alaskan summers. In one word, it was perfect! The BBQ was a huge hit, there were many other controllers whom work with Rene and others from the trainers wife's work. This was the first time I had met any of the guys, or non-trainee guys. They were a lot of fun and had great things to say about Rene and the other trainees in his class. =) It was great to hear the positive comments, both for me and Rene. Anyways, we had a great time and I am excited to get to know these guys and their families better. We may have to host a BBQ next summer once we have a home.

How time flies

Rene and I were talking the other day and we realized it has been almost one full year since we moved away from our home, Alaska. =( Although I was lucky enough to return home for a little while, Rene has not. We cannot believe time has passed by so fast. We also realized that in three months, Rene will have been a Federal employee for a year. How time flies.... Hopefully the next four years go just as fast and we will be home in Alaska again!

Its been a while

So it has been a little while since I last posted something. I find it hard to think of things interesting enough for you to read. =) This weekend we traveled to Evansville, IN to see the Fischback family. It was a great weekend! Rene had saturday through monday off which was really nice. On monday, we had a large feast where just about everyone helped out. The most shocking thing was to see Rene cooking!!! I know, where's the proof, right?! He actually made all of the fried ocra for the meal and did a good job. I don't know if this will continue once we are home, but maybe. I taught the family to make Kimbop (a korean version of california rolls). No pics of that as I am the photographer. Here are some more weekend fun pics. Rene played Twister with some of the girls and then all the guys helped out putting up walls for a room the Fischbacks are adding and finally, picking fresh veggies from the garden.

It was just a chaotic, fun weekend. Now, something I should have added some time ago are pics of our new home, or the floorplans. We are so excited to have a home and move out of our apartment. I believe that one of the greatest things for Rene is that he will finally be able to use his surround sound "the way its supposed to be used." (LOUD) The home does look rather big, but we have hopes of filling it with children! =) We should be moving into the new home next March.

Colts game!

Our first Colts game, and our first NFL game!!!! Wow, what an exciting day. We started out with getting decked out in Colts gear. We headed into downtown Indianapolis and there were so many people hanging about. After finding some parking, we headed for the stadium. We wanted to hurry inside to see everything. It was pretty cool because this was the first NFL game inside the new Lucas Oil Stadium. Our seats were way at the top and this being our first time inside, we didnt know how to get there exactly. We ended up taking this ramp that took like 15 minutes to go up. It was ridiculous!!! After the game we found out that there were escalators. Oh my.... Overall though, it was an incredible experience. Unfortunetly we did not win, but it was only a pregame and our 3rd and 4th string QBs were played. It was still awsome though. Here are a few pics of everything.

A panaramic view of the game.

Colts have the ball Us in our seats

After the game, right by the field =) The field
Rene and I cannot wait until we can go to a real game! Our dream would be to have season tickets while we are down here and to possibly go to the Superbowl in 2012!!! Oh, what a dream that is....

Our first post!

Our first blog... what to write. Well, I am still trying to figure all of this out but I think I've got a handle on it. We decided to start blogging since we are so far away from our friends and family. =( We are currently living in Indianapolis, IN where Rene is training to be an Air Traffic Controller. (And no, that is not the guy who stands out by the planes wings with the orange cone things) I am looking for work with no real prospects, but oh well. The weather is hot and humid, which is nothing like Alaska. Not a day goes by when I don't miss home. But, we are making the best of things. This sunday, Rene and I have tickets to see the Colts play the Bills in the new Lucas Oil Stadium!!! Our first NFL game ever!!!! We are stoked! There will be pictures to come =)

Here is a pic of Rene and I with the one and only, Colonel Sanders!!! That's right folks, the KFC dude. We volunteered to help out with the Indy 500 Mini Marathon and was surprised to see which celebrity showed up. It was a very long day as we had to show up around 4 am. It was a great amount of fun though. More to come later on all of our adventures.
